Disney Cookie Jars
Disney cookie jars do not lack for variety so it may be hard for you to decide exactly what to collect. For example, do you want only one character? That might limit your selection a little bit, but since cookie jars take up a fair amount of space, on character might be enough. Perhaps other themes like castles or dragons are more your cup of tea – those are a little more abundant. Or, it might be easier to collect cookie jars with images from a specific Disney story, which again gives you greater selection. Some of the most popular cookie jars in the Disney line include Donald Duck, Dumbo, Mickey Jars (of course), and Winnie the Pooh. Limited Edition Cookie Jars If you're new to collecting its generally smart to get limited editions or pieces that have been documented as licensed. Disney is very particular about its copyrights. Even the newer characters have limited edition cookie jars available (like Stitch). Jars of this nature will be a little more costly, but you'll know you've got the real deal and an item that's most likely going to appreciate. All of the limited edition Disney cookie jars in the last 10 years have been well marked.
If you're looking for older items Disney Auctions is one way to go. The idea is that you can buy certified Disney items including cookie jars. Even some of the low run items (under 500 copies) usually don't go over $100 in price. This is a reasonable, and safe way to get started in collecting. Do be careful, however. This hobby can become addictive and you can quickly outgrow display room. Vintage Disney As with other vintage items, you may get lucky and find a vintage Disney jar at a flea market, garage sale, or estate sale. However, more of them get snatched from the shelves of an antique store or from online auctions. In terms of online buying – always be careful. NOTE: if you KNOW an item is a replica, that's fine. It's a way to cheaply round out your collection until the real deal comes along. Buying in person doesn't necessarily protect you either. Not all dealers are as educated about all types of antiques as they should be. So ask your dealer if they offer any warrantee if the cookie jar turns out to be a reproduction. If not, go out the door as quickly as you came in, unless you're an absolute expert on Disney jars.

Cookie jars are a whimsical collector's item, particularly Disney cookie jars. The characters and stories from Disney bring back wonderful memories and many of them have been commemorated in finely detailed cookie jars. The vintage jars date to 1940-1960. For those on a tighter budget, there are mass produced cookie jars produced by Schmid and Zaks among others. There are also jars that you can only buy through Disney stores, or Disney auctions.

You cannot see and touch the piece to try and make sure its authentic. So read the seller's review and if you have any questions email them. The more details you get before buying the better. You can get some great deals online, but also some pretty good fakes.
