McCoy Cookie Jars
During the Depression, McCoy smartly coupled with various pottery companies to survive the storm. This lead to renaming the company in 1933 – quite simply the McCoy Pottery Company.
Come the 1960s McCoy ran into financial trouble and had to sell to Mount Clemens Pottery. After that is sold to Lancaster Colony Corporation and finally ceased operations in 1990.
McCoy began to produce Cookie Jars around 1939 with one of the most famous jars they ever produced called Mammy. This jar looked a bit like the classic Aunt Jemima character with cauliflowers. This jar continues to sell for upward of 1,000.00 for the “real McCoy.” From the 1930s through the 1980s McCoy produced hundreds of cookie jars in a very wide range of styles and designs.
What I love about McCoy's Jars is how they managed to capture the era through the years. When I look at the Snoopy Cookie Jar, I immediately think of and remember the late 1960s and my childhood.
If you are over 40, you will not be able to look at McCoy Jars without a great deal of nostalgia – which is one of the main reasons they are so popular with collectors today. Related Pages:

Vintage McCoy Cookie Jars are among the most collected Vintage Cookie Jars. Their history begins in 1910 with Nelson McCoy. In that year he established McCoy Sanitary Soneware Co. located in Roseville, OH. This region had wonderful natural clay that the company used to create their stoneware. The McCoy earthenware line was made predominantly for everyday kitchens along with some fore fanciful pieces that were added later on down the line.
At this juncture the firm began introducing several new designs and lines. Included in these offerings we find McCoy cookie jars and vases along with other very utilitarian items. To this day McCoy items are valued by collectors.
Cookie Jars:
While some McCoys are rare and very valuable, there is a large variety of Antique McCoy Jars that can be affordably obtained and collected.
The bright yellow smiley face cookie jar reminds me instantly of the 1970s.
