Vanity Fair Nightgowns

Vintage Vanity Fair NightgownVintage Vanity Fair Nightgowns are among the most popular with vintage nightgown lovers and collectors. The company has been around since 1899 (the name Vanity Fair was chosen via an employee contest in 1917) and in 1948 stopped working with silk and began to work only with nylon for their nightgowns and other lingerie. They were the forerunners in the development and use of Nylon Tricot and had many Vintage Vanity Fair Nightgowninnovations through the years - including colors, prints and even pleating.

In the 1950s the company produced many "novelty prints" - such as animal prints, butterfly prints and even high end gold lame items - they were popular then and are popular again today with collectors!

In the late 1950s/Early 1960s the miracle known as Lycra (Spandex) was developed and Vanity Fair stopped using rubber in it's lingerie, using Lyrca instead.

Vanity Fair is best know for elegant and feminine nightgowns, with beautiful details such as lace, chiffon, satin ribbons and full sweeping skirts.

Vanity Fair is also known for the beautiful slips they made throughout the years and many vintage lingerie collectors use the slips as nightgowns.

For the most part, Vintage Vanity Fair Gowns are plentiful and affordable and they are a great way to add to a Vintage Nightgown Collection. Because the nylon tricot is virtually indestructible (unless you melt it!) they hold up very well through the years with easy care.
